Alfred Matthew "Weird Al" Yankovic is an American singer-songwriter, parodist, record producer, actor, and film producer best known for his humorous songs that parody and satirize pop culture and polka medleys of popular songs.

He voices Preston Change-O in Star vs. the Forces of Evil, in "Trickstar".

Early life

Yankovic was born in Downey, California to Mary Elizabeth (née Vivalda) and Nick Yankovic and raised in Lynwood, California. His interest in music was originally sparked by his first accordion lesson on the day before his sixth birthday. He took accordion lessons at a local music school for three years before continuing to learn on his own.

Among Yankovic's influences in comedic and parody music include Tom Lehrer, Stan Freberg, Spike Jones, Allan Sherman, Shel Silverstein and Frank Zappa. Other sources of inspiration for his comedy come from Mad magazine, Monty Python, and the Zucker, Abrahams and Zucker parody movies.

Yankovic graduated Lynwood High School in 1975 as the valedictorian of his senior class, and he attended California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo where he earned a bachelor's degree in architecture.

Career

Yankovic is well known for creating parodies of contemporary radio hits, which typically make up about half of his studio releases. His success, including the Top 10 single "White & Nerdy" and album Straight Outta Lynwood in 2006, has enabled him to escape the one-hit wonder stigma often associated with novelty music. While Yankovic's song parodies have resulted in success on the Billboard charts, he has also recorded numerous original songs.

Since his first-aired comedy song in 1976, Yankovic has sold more than 12 million albums, recorded more than 150 parody and original songs, and has performed more than 1,000 live shows. His works have earned him four Grammy Awards and 11 nominations, four gold records, and six platinum records in the United States.

In addition to recording his albums, Yankovic wrote and starred in the film UHF and The Weird Al Show. He has also made multiple guest appearances and voice acting roles on many television shows, both animated and in live-action, and video web content. He has also written two children's books: When I Grow Up and My New Teacher and Me!
