It premiered on November 8, 2017, alongside "Demoncism".[1]

Synopsis[]

Marco decides to put in a full effort to living life in the present on Earth.[2]

Plot[]

The episode begins at the Diaz Household shortly before the start of the new school year. Ever since Marco returned home from Mewni, he has worn his knight's cape nonstop, claiming that he's still readjusting to life on Earth. His mom Angie tells him how she once spent a summer in France and annoyed all her friends about French stuff when she returned, but Marco insists that won't happen to him and his friends.

However, during a tabletop role-playing game with Janna, Ferguson, and Alfonzo, Marco annoys Alfonzo and Ferguson so much with stories about Mewni that the two leave. He talks to Sensei Brantley about it, and Sensei is so inspired by Marco's life-changing ordeals that he puts on his own cape and calls the two of them "cape bros". But Marco points out that he earned his cape and Sensei didn't earn his, which upsets him. When Marco confides in Jackie, he claims his friends are just jealous. Jackie believes Marco never really left Mewni when he came home and has only been talking about his summer instead of asking about hers. Realizing his mother was right, Marco promises to make it up to Jackie.

The next day, Marco shows up on Jackie's doorstep (without his cape) to take her out on "the ultimate date", and they go to the Echo Creek Pier. They play some pier games and win a giant plush, share cotton candy, and pig out on fancy restaurant food – they even steal one of the restaurant's lobsters and set it free into the ocean. At the end of the day, they sit at the end of the pier and watch the sunset together. Marco says he finally feels like he's back on Earth, and Jackie hugs him.

Unfortunately, during that hug, Jackie discovers that Marco is still wearing his cape underneath his hoodie. She realizes that Marco is forcing himself to stay in Echo Creek just to make her happy; fearing that will make them both miserable in the long run, she decides to break up with him. Marco insists that he wants to make their relationship work and calls Jackie his best friend, but Jackie knows full well that she isn't. After giving him a kiss on the cheek, she tells Marco to stay amazing and skates away on her skateboard, leaving a tearful Marco behind.

The next day, Marco decides to leave Earth for a while to stay on Mewni, using the same exchange student program that brought Star to Earth in the first place. As he reconciles with his friends, his father Rafael expresses deep concern, but Angie says Marco needs to have his own "French summer". After saying goodbye to his loved ones, Marco leaves through a dimensional portal and arrives on the outskirts of Butterfly Castle.
